Many of us know a few things that we can do in our everyday lifestyles to support good health and enhance our immune systems such as:
- Eating a healthy diet – including fresh fruits and vegetables
- Moderate exercise – at least 30 min, 3 times a week
- Adequate amounts of sleep – 8 hours per night
- Good hydration with water – half your body weight in ounces per day
- Healthy lymph system – massage and dry brushing
- Lower stress – meditation, breathing, down time
Did you know that you can also build your immunity and strengthen your system naturally without having to put chemicals and toxins into your body, simply by using therapeutic grade essential oils?
Essential oils have a unique ability to penetrate cell membranes and diffuse throughout the blood and tissues. The structure of essential oils is very similar to the make-up of our cell membranes. The molecules of essential oils are also relatively small, which enhances their ability to penetrate into the cells. When topically applied, essential oils can travel throughout the body in a matter of minutes. I only use and recommend Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils because of their quality and effectiveness.
One of the most powerful preventive defenses we can use is the Young Living Thieves essential oil blend along with the many products that contain this oil blend. Thieves blend was tested at Weber State University and found to be highly effective in killing airborne microorganisms and has been documented to kill over 99.96% of bacteria it comes in contact with. Good hygiene using Thieves products can lessen the chances of spreading contagious diseases.
I use Thieves oil just about everyday. When I wake up, I rub some on the soles of my feet and apply it throughout the day depending on what circumstances I encounter. I use the Thieves cleaning solution to clean my house and carry with me either Thieves wipes or Thieves spray for public restrooms and shopping carts.
Some additional blends that are wonderful anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and great for prevention and building the immune system this season are:
- Egyptian Gold – contains frankincense, lavender, Idaho balsam fir, myrrh, spikenard, hyssop, cedarwood, rose and cinnamon bark.
- Exodus II – contains olive oil, cassia, myrrh, cinnamon bark, calamus, hyssop, galbanum, frankincense and spikenard
- ImmuPower – contains hyssop, mountain savory, cistus, ravensara, frankincense, oregano, clove, cumin and Idaho tansy
These can be used in this recipe I learned from fellow Young Living Essential Oils distributor Tiffany Rowan. She says, “My family has not gotten the flu in the last 10 years. We build our immune systems with essential oils. I will dilute 40 drops of an essential oil blend in one ounce of V-6 vegetable oil complex.” V-6 is a blend of 6 different vegetable oils from Young Living, formulated to use with essential oils. If you don’t have V-6 you can use a good quality cold pressed vegetable oil.
Tiffany recommends that you apply the blend to your chest nightly or, for a young child, apply to the back so he or she will not touch the oils and get them into their eyes. The oils are able to enter the lungs to protect the respiratory system this way. Tiffany also mentions that most cells will only live for 90 days and to do this regimen for this amount of time so cells are bathed in essential oils and will be strong for flu season.
Diffusing the oils is also important to purify the air and allow the oils into the respiratory system. You can diffuse the Thieves, Egyptian Gold, Exodus II or ImmuPower in a cold air diffuser. You don’t have to diffuse all day and night, just 15 minutes 2-3 times a day would be great.
Hint: Never use heat with therapeutic grade essential oils as it will degrade them and destroy the therapeutic properties.
I also use Ningxia Red daily. It is a nutrient-infused antioxidant drink that contains essential oils and has the highest levels of naturally occurring S-ORAC activity to help support immune function. Ningxia Red is packed with essential nutrients and no “junk” juices.
If you would like to learn more about essential oils and how they can support your immune system and a healthy lifestyle, I invite you to my essential oils gathering at Women In Wellness on Thursday November 17th at 7:00 pm. We will sample some oils and talk about the three different ways to use the oils in everyday life.
