Conspicuously Unusual

by Cara Michele Nether

The dictionary defines remarkable as: notably or conspicuously unusual; extraordinary; worthy of notice or attention.  I really resonate with the phrase “conspicuously unusual” because I find it so amazing that even the smallest, thoughtful, conspicuously unusual gesture can bring a dream to life.

I recently met a young woman whose clarity, momentum, and willingness to ask for help all caught my attention!   Kokitia told me during our first conversation that she woke up one day and knew that she was meant to provide a safe space for women to come together for the purpose of taking care of and learning about themselves.  She wasn’t sure what it was going to look like, what assistance she need or even the when it was going to happen.  The only thing she knew for sure is that this event was supposed to happen and that she was supposed to make it happen.

So, based on a recommendation from a friend she called me to ask for support.  Because of her willingness to put one foot in front of the other, over and over again, her vision will become a reality on October 30.

Many of us are nudged by our inner voices to create something new or to take action on an exciting situation.  However, I guess we could say that many of us take the “conspicuously usual” route and let our promptings and dreams fall to the wayside.  I understand why many of us end up choosing this route – it is often scary, and scary things seem really hard.  Doing something different often means that we don’t know how to start, so we end up doing nothing.  This all makes sense to me and I guess that’s why Kokitia is so unusual.

I wanted to share this story with you to remind you that even though it might seem hard, it really is easy to keep moving forward on a long-lived desire or a new spark in your eye – just take one step at a time and keep moving!   Thank you, Kokitia Fields, for reminding us to be “conspicuously unusual” and for not being too afraid to see your vision through.
