Yummy Roasted Brussels Sprouts in 15 Minutes

So many people have had bad experiences with brussels sprouts as a child and have written them off for good. I would like to show you that, if cooked right, they can be one of your favorite foods of all time. Toaster ovens are a great tool for anyone with a busy schedule who want to eat healthy whole foods. Because the interior of the oven is so small, it heats up and cooks food in no time.

Let’s see how to have these yummy treats ready in 15 minutes!

What You Will Need

  • A bag of brussels sprouts
  • A toaster oven or regular oven
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Olive oil

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350F

Let’s get a jump start on the cooking process by preheating your toaster oven. As I started before, toaster ovens heat up and cook much faster than your conventional oven. I have found it useful to start at a lower temperature and check on the progress of your food until you become familiar with your unit. I set my oven on 350 for the brussels sprouts and they were golden brown in less than 10 minutes.

  • Clean and half brussels sprouts

Brussle sprouts look like little cabbages and can be prepared the same way. Trim off the bottom of the sprouts and any outside leaves that are loose or discolored. After trimming your brussels sprouts you may want to cut them in half. This will make them into bite-size pieces and help them cook faster.

prepping brussels sprouts

  • Place brussels sprouts on a baking trey covered with aluminum foil, lightly coat with olive oil and season with salt and pepper

For everyday cooking my motto is “the simpler, the better.” Here I used olive oil, salt and black pepper. I don’t tend to measure everything precisely: a little bit of this and a little of that. If you are new to this method, start with a little. After they cook you can always add more of what is missing. Also, if you have other spices that you like and have on hand, go for it!

  • Place evenly spread brussels sprouts in the toaster oven for 5 min, then flip when brown

I lined the toaster oven pan with foil and spread the sprouts out on it evenly. Don’t cover the top. You’re going to want them to brown and caramelize a bit. My mouth is starting to water already. By the way washing, trimming, cutting in half and seasoning your sprouts only take about 5 minutes tops. After about 5 minutes check to see if brussels sprouts are starting to brown. If so, pull them out and use a fork to flip them over so they can brown on the other side. After they are all flipped, slide the tray back in for the final stretch.

  • Give it another 5 min and pull out when golden brown and fork-tender

I check the sprouts again in another 5 minutes or so. You should be able to stick your fork in them with ease. Fork Tender, Baby!! Pull them out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. I know it’s going to be hard to wait to taste them, but they will be hot. If more salt or other seasonings are needed, you can add them now. If you’re like me, brussles sprouts may not have been your favorite food as a kid. But now I can’t get enough of them!
